I have seen such scenes hundreds of times over my life as a Christian. However I must bring up a counter view so that everyone don't get the idea that is what every preacher is trying to do. As a minister myself I am faced with such a dilemma every time I step behind the pulpit. I am always reminded "I am a dying man speaking to dying people." I never know when this is someone last altar call or my last sermon. There are special times when a minister will feel that this may be one of those times. A lot of times it is not but just a warning but it happens somewhere every day where someone has set and heard a message for the very last time. If they are without Christ and were not given the time and opportunity to change that, the last message they ever will hear, then there blood is upon somebodies hands who took that service and that message and trashed it with all the rest because they were in a hurry to go to the buffet line. I understand your point and I know that it happens a lot and I do not like it myself. However I'd rather error on the side to many faulty altar calls then not enough. Maybe we as Christians should take advantage of these coming forward to seek God and become closer to Him. Because it could also be our last altar call and I'd like to have just talked to the Father before I meet Him.

Excellent point.
