I recently stepped out on a ledge and launched my photography business. It's a little unnerving to put yourself out there and risk total failure, but it's also exhilarating.
I have to say though that I have been surprised by both those that have been supportive and those who haven't. There are people that I have known for years and consider them fairly close friends who have offered no congratulations or encouragement at all. Then there are those who I speak to rarely who go out of their way to offer support.
